Mexican Auto Insurance

We strongly recommend that you purchase Mexican auto insurance. While some US auto insurance policies will cover damage to a vehicle that is in Mexico, the Mexican government will not accept a US policy for legal liability coverage. In Mexico, if you are at fault in an accident and do not have a valid Mexican auto insurance policy, you may be put in jail until you are able to pay for damages yourself.

To purchase Mexican insurance, you will need the following information:

• Current registration. (You will need the VIN and license plate number of the vehicle. If you are pulling a trailer you will need the trailer’s registration, also.)
  Current American insurance policy
• Drivers license number and expiration date and date of birth each driver to be listed on the policy
  Value of the vehicle (Visit Kelley Blue Book’s website to look up the value of your vehicle.)
• Credit card number and expiration date
