Natividad Nicia Gil is a first year student at MTI from Cuernavaca, Morelos. When asked about why she decided to come to MTI, she stated, "I didn’t decide to come! It’s something God put in my life!" And she went on to share part of her story:
One morning I was at home alone. My sons were both working and my daughter was in one of her college classes. And I was enjoying a cup of coffee. I began to think: is this how my life is going to be? Alone, drinking coffee? I told the Lord, "I don’t want the rest of my life to be like this, alone and not doing anything." So I began to think.
God put something on my heart, like He was talking to me: "Naty, you have dreams in your heart."
"Yes, Lord, I do have a desire in my heart." I answered. I knew this desire to prepare myself to serve better was from God. My children are all grown and within the next eight years I can see them all married and starting their own lives. One is already married and two are still single. I said, "Lord I need to prepare myself so when this time comes, I can fly too!" And that is where this dream began.
From there I began to pray asking the Lord if this was from Him, that I would keep praying, but that when I share this desire with others, they’ll say YES! Then I would know He wants me to prepare myself.
I prayed for 15 days.
First I called one of my sons and shared my dream with him. He said, "Yes mom, go ahead."
Then I called my other son. He said, "Yeah mom, it’s a good idea. We’re behind you!"
Then I talked to my daughter and said, "Damaris, you’re in college, and I also need to prepare myself so that one day in the future when you start your own life, I won’t be alone and unprepared here at home."
She said, "Yes mom, go ahead because when I’m ready to make my own decisions, I want you to be free from the burden of not following your dreams because of me."
I had the support of my kids. Next I shared with my pastor. "Okay, go ahead."
Of course, when I shared my testimony with some other believers they said things like, "No! How can you leave your kids?" But I told them that God had made the calling very clear to me. I felt the Lord give me this verse: "Jesus replied, ‘No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.’" (Luke 9:62) I said, "Lord I don’t want to be selfish, I want to be brave and take the plow! And here I am!"
