El Roble is a neighborhood on the outskirts of Ensenada, where thousands of young families reside. The houses are very small and made available through a government financing program. For many low-income families, this program represents their sole opportunity to own a home.
The smallest homes have just one bedroom and measure 300 square feet. Often, several family members share the same room, leaving them with minimal privacy. We have teamed up with Engineering Ministries International (EMI), who have meticulously planned the room addition and provided assistance in its execution to ensure success.
We are showing God's love by constructing this additional room so that children can have their own space, enjoy privacy, and live in dignified conditions. We invite you to join us on a 5-day trip to transform families’ living situations and make a lifelong impact.

How will I spend the day?
- 8:00 to 9:00 – delicious breakfast at Agua Viva!
- 9:00 to 12:00 – morning ministry in Ensenada
- 12:00 to 1:00 – lunch
- 1:00 to 4:00 – afternoon ministry in Ensenada
- 6:30 to 7:30 – wonderful dinner at Agua Viva!
(One evening will include worship with local church and tacos for dinner)
Do I need construction skills?
Having construction experience is a bonus, but everyone can play a valuable role! Agua Viva will assign a construction coordinator to lead the project and break it down into manageable tasks. While some tasks involve heavy lifting, cutting, and hammering, there are also lighter tasks like painting, installing insulation, and cleaning.
How many people can be on a team?
For each house, the ideal team size is between 8 to 15 individuals. For larger groups, it's advantageous to undertake multiple projects during the same trip.
Is there an age limit?
No, there is no age limit. Participants of all ages are welcome, and families with children are encouraged to join.
Do I need to speak Spanish?
No, speaking Spanish is not necessary. We will provide an interpreter for your group. However, if you're interested, it's a great opportunity to practice your Spanish.
Is it safe?
Yes, your safety is our top priority. We will take you to areas we are familiar with, and stringent safety measures will be in place throughout your trip. Agua Viva has a 40-year history of hosting teams without any major safety issues.
What will Agua Viva Provide?
Do I need my passport to travel to Mexico?
When re-entering the US, you will need one of the following:
- U.S. Passport or Passport Card
- Enhanced Driver's License
- Trusted Traveler Program (TTP) cards (Global Entry, NEXUS, or SENTRI)
Groups of children ages 16-18 traveling with an adult-supervised group can also present an original or copy of a U.S. birth certificate or Naturalization Certificate. More information is available via the provided link (link).
Costs & Information:
The construction project costs $7,500 and covers all materials and tools needed. Individual costs for the Sunday-Friday trip are:
- $395 per adult
- $275 per child age 12 and under
- $50 for children age 3 and under
