Rey and Lidia Sanchez
Wixarica people, Jalisco.
Just back from a short-term trip with men of his church in northern Baja California, to the Wixárikas people (also called “Huicholes”) of Mexico’s Sierra Madres, Rey headed straight to his pastor’s house. He knocked so violently the pastor thought the door would break.
Filled with conviction Rey told of what he had seen—people spiritually empty, caught in the dark snares of witchcraft and tradition.
“When I saw that,” he told his pastor, “I said to myself, ‘someone needs to come here and help these people. And then I realized, I am someone.’”
Rey and Lidia initiated their missionary work in 2007. The Wixárikas tend to be extremely suspicious of outsiders. But Rey and Lidia live very simply, they walk in a wisdom that is from God, and they have an uncanny ability to embrace both culture its people, and to be embraced by them.
They have experienced miracles of healing amongst the people.
A church has been planted in one of the central towns, and in the villages scattered throughout the mountain range, many have put their trust in Christ.
